We use to put a limiter on a vocalist or ride the fader durning tracking. Some vocalist know how to work a mic and some dont, so I have been using a Waves plug-in these days called the Vocal Rider. Its has been working great, you should check it out. Binary Recording Studio.

Using a shotgun mic for vocals, Binary Recording Studio

Used a shotgun mic the other day for a vocal behind and higher then the main vocal mic. I use a shotgun mic alot in recording sound on film shoots so I thought I would try it as a studio mic. I liked it give it a try! Binary Recording Studio

How to get color in your recording, Binary Recording Studio

 I use many different mic pre's when recording, solid state and tube pre's.  If your able try different mic pre's on a instrument before printing the track you will hear the differences.  At Binary Recording Studio we have many mic pre's for that reason alone.

I have been in the biz long enough to see this change.   I still like using a recording console!
